“Stained Glass” program, 1996

The plot is dedicated to the history of the Khanenko family and the exposition of the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Art in Kyiv.

The video shows thematic collections of the funds of the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Art, in particular, it tells about the pearl of the gallery - “Still Life with a Chocolate Mill” from 1640 by Juan de Zurbaran.

Reference: Bohdan Ivanovich Khanenko (1849–1917) - Ukrainian collector, patron of the arts, industrialist and member of the State Council of the Russian Empire. He was an active participant in the cultural life of Kyiv, collecting collections of antiquities and works of art that became the basis of the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Arts in Kyiv. Khanenko also engaged in archaeological excavations in the Kyiv region and actively supported scientific societies. His legacy significantly influenced the development of Ukrainian culture and art.

Khanenko Museum: 165th Anniversary of Bohdan Khanenko

The exhibition in the Treasury of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine  is dedicated to the monuments of Greco-Scythian art from the collection of the National Museum of History of Ukraine.

Among the antiquities presented is a unique Scythian sword with a gold scabbard of the 4th century BC, which returned to Ukraine in 2014.

Note: The return of exhibits from the Scythian gold collection to Ukraine was the result of a long legal process that began after Russia, through the occupation of Crimea, tried to appropriate cultural values ​​belonging to Ukraine. Thus, the collection was taken to the Netherlands for exhibition, and after the annexation of Crimea, Russia tried to return it to the occupied Crimea. However, in 2014, the Amsterdam court ruled that the exhibits belong to Ukraine, and this decision was confirmed by the Court of Appeal in 2021. The Supreme Court of the Netherlands finally confirmed Ukraine's right to this collection in June 2023, transferring the exhibits to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine and recognizing them as part of the cultural heritage of independent Ukraine.

Ukrainian heritage: Scythian gold

Mykhajlo Hrushevsky's second cousin donated a porcelain teapot of the Ukrainian figure to a charity auction, the proceeds of which will be used to build a family-type boarding school “School-Life” for children with autism and cerebral palsy. 

Comments: Svitlana Pankova, employee of the Museum of History of Kyiv, a branch of the Mykhajlo Hrushevsky Historical and Memorial Museum; Victoria Slutska, Hrushevsky's second cousin.

For reference: the lot was sold for 25 thousand hryvnias to Olena Ledovskikh, a representative of the Our Ukraine bloc. Ms. Ledovskikh handed it over to the Hrushevsky Museum.

On video: Museum of the History of the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, exposition: a carved slate slab with a holy warrior-horseman from the 11th century, frescoes from the 12th century of St. Michael's Cathedral; in the foreground are glazed objects of worship: crosses, lamps, censers, banners, chalices, works of icon painting, samples of priestly vestments from the 18th-19th centuries.

Reference: In 2008, eleven restored 12th-century frescoes were presented in the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Cathedral in Kyiv, including the scenes "Eucharist", "Stephen and Faldeus", the images of Saint Zachary and "Annunciation", which were returned to Ukraine after lengthy negotiations with Russia in 2001-2004. The frescoes, which were taken to Germany during World War II and, after its end, ended up in the Russian Hermitage, were part of the interior of the cathedral built by Prince Svyatopolk Izyaslavovich. Their return was an important event, as these works of art are part of the national cultural heritage of Ukraine.

Description: Teodor Popescu and Svitlana Kolyvianova were soloists of the Kharkiv Lysenko Opera and Ballet Theater, People's Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1973-1974, the dancing couple toured the Bolshoi Theater of the USSR in North and South America and Italy. The Popescu-Kolyvanova dance duo is a legend of Ukrainian ballet.

The plot is dedicated to the art and documentary exhibition “The Sky of My Childhood”. The author is People’s Artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Kutkin. The exhibition is on display at the National Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War (now the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War), Kyiv.
