History of the People's Movement of Ukraine

The video shows a report on the visit of German Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl to Ukraine. Boryspil Airport, a German airline plane, the Ukrainian delegation meets the chancellor, bread and salt, the national anthems of Germany and Ukraine are played, an honor guard, the delegations board the transfer. Among the participants: Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Lazarenko, German Ambassador to Ukraine Eberhard Heiken, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hennadiy Udovenko, Head of the Presidential Administration Dmytro Tabachnyk, Mayor of Kyiv Oleksandr Omelchenko.

Reference: The Chancellor's visit took place during a period of key state-building events: the introduction of the national currency and the recent adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine. 

During his visit, Kohl held talks with the country's leadership on political and economic cooperation. As a result, the parties adopted a joint statement on support for reforms in Ukraine and signed several intergovernmental agreements, including on cooperation in the fields of television, taxation, and the protection of the rights of persons of German origin.

Reference: The "Cassette Scandal" ("Melnychenko tapes") was a political crisis that erupted in Ukraine in the fall of 2000 after the release of audio recordings made in the office of President Leonid Kuchma, which indicated the possible involvement of senior officials in the kidnapping and murder of journalist Georgy Gongadze. The scandal sparked mass protests under the slogan "Ukraine without Kuchma" and became an important milestone in the formation of Ukrainian civil society. Despite several investigations and court decisions, the issue of the authenticity of Melnychenko's recordings and Kuchma's responsibility remains legally unresolved.

20 years of the "cassette scandal"

The news plot for November 27, 2018 is dedicated to the incident in the Kerch Strait — the first case of military aggression by russia against Ukraine, committed openly under its state flag since the beginning of the war in 2014.

Reference: the incident in the Kerch Strait on November 25, 2018 was the first open act of armed aggression by russia against Ukraine under the Russian state flag since the beginning of the war in 2014. Russian border guards attacked and seized three Ukrainian vessels — the Berdyansk, Nikopol, and Yany Kapu — during their lawful passage from Odessa to Mariupol. The attack injured six sailors and captured 24 Ukrainian Navy servicemen. The incident caused international outrage and became the basis for the introduction of martial law in Ukraine for 30 days in the border regions, marking a new stage in the escalation of russian aggression in the Azov-Black Sea region.

The Ukrainian leadership initiated the introduction of martial law, and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry launched a diplomatic campaign at the international level to consolidate the support of partners.

Reference: The 2010 Tax Code of the government of Mykola Azarov declared a simplification of the taxation system: reducing the number of state taxes, introducing tax holidays for small and medium-sized businesses, introducing a real estate tax, and redistributing finances in favor of local budgets. The government presented these changes as a structural reform and a step towards a "civilized" business climate, but entrepreneurs and small businesses reacted with sharp dissatisfaction due to the threat of increased control, inspections, and loss of the right to work on a single tax. The Code was also criticized for being prepared in a closed mode and an attempt to adopt the document without sufficient public discussion.
