“When I Look Into Your Eyes”: a poem by Pavlo Tychyna

Reference: Mykola Nehoda is a Ukrainian poet and prose writer, author of novels, short stories and significant poetic works, whose work covers military, historical and lyric-epic themes. His most famous work was the text of the requiem song "Steppe, Steppe", which gained all-Ukrainian recognition. Winner of numerous literary awards, Honored Artist of Ukraine and Honorary Citizen of Cherkasy.

Kyiv, year unknown. On the audio recording, Mykola Koziy reads Taras Shevchenko's poem “Nu, shcho zdayalosya slova” (“What Would Seem to Be Words”). 

Reference: Mykola Koziy is a Ukrainian dubbing actor, announcer, television and radio presenter, and journalist. He is considered one of the best Ukrainian radio announcers. 

He has participated in the dubbing of a number of popular television series and programs. Since the mid-1990s, he has been one of the hosts of the NRKU morning news program. Mykola Koziy participated in the dubbing and voice acting of such films as “The King Speaks,” “Noah's Ark,” the TV series ‘Alf’ and “Columbo,” and the animated series “Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends” and “Transformers.” He voiced a large number of audiobooks. In 2019, he voiced the Tomos granting autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Mykola Koziy died on September 7, 2020, at the age of 80 after a serious illness.

“What would seem to be words”: Taras Shevchenko

Reference: Paul Celan is a German-speaking poet of Jewish origin from Chernivtsi, one of the central representatives of European post-war lyrics. His poetics was formed under the influence of modernism and the experience of the Holocaust, which led to a new model of speech in German poetry of the second half of the 20th century. Celan's texts, in particular "Death Fugue" and the collection "Poppies and Memory", are considered key to the development of catastrophic aesthetics and the poetics of silence. In modern literary criticism, Celan has the status of a canonical figure, and his origin from Chernivtsi is an important element of the city's cultural history.
