Vasyl Kuk's 90th anniversary

Vasyl Kuk, a general in the battalion, Roman Shukhevych's deputy, took part in the program "Echoes". He talks about Shukhevych and how he remembers him. The author and host of the program is Tamara Shapovalova. 

Stepan Kuk was a Ukrainian military leader, one of the leaders of the Ukrainian national liberation movement, general-corporal, leader of the UPA-South, and commander-in-chief of the UPA from 1950 to 1954 (after the death of Roman Shukhevych). He was captured by the troops of the USSR Ministry of State Security and spent 6 years in prison without a court order. The last years of his life he lived in Kyiv. He died on September 9, 2007. 

Roman Shukhevych was born on June 30, 1907, in Lviv. Ukrainian politician, public and statesman. Member of the Galician regional leadership of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. He was an active member of the OUN, a general-corporal, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (1943-1950), and head of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Supreme Liberation Council (1943-1950). A fighter for Ukrainian independence in the twentieth century. Shukhevych was killed on March 5, 1950, during a special operation by the Soviet secret services to arrest him.

Reference: Stefan Yavorsky is a theologian, philosopher and preacher of the Kyiv-Mohyla tradition, who, after studying at the Kyiv-Mohyla Collegium and studies in Jesuit centers of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, taught poetics, rhetoric, philosophy and theology in Kyiv. In 1701–1721, he headed the Russian Orthodox Church as the locum tenens of the patriarchal throne, and after the creation of the Holy Synod, he became its first president, while at the same time supporting the autonomy of church authority and criticizing certain aspects of the church reform of Peter I. His legacy includes more than 300 sermons, the polemical treatise "The Stone of Faith" and a philosophical course of Baroque scholasticism with the development of logic, theory of knowledge and natural philosophical problems within the framework of the Kyiv-Mohyla intellectual culture.

Reference: Yevhen Tovstukha is a Ukrainian scientist, a herbalist and writer, one of the leading researchers of Ukrainian folk medicine and phytoethnology of the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Author of more than fifteen fundamental works on herbal medicine and folk medicine, in which he systematized traditional medical practices and integrated them into scientific discourse.
