Bibrka: past and present cities, 1996


2006. Lviv Television. The Golden Province program about Olesky Castle, one of the most significant historical monuments of the Golden Horseshoe of Ukraine. It tells about the history of its origin, the role in different periods of history, the architecture and artistic values of the castle, in particular the history of the sculpture of St. Florian.

Olesky Castle: the pearl of the "Golden Horseshoe"

Lviv Television, 1993. The documentary film “The Holodomor” tells the story of the 1932–1933 Holodomor in Ukraine and the assassination attempt by Mykola Lemyk on the Soviet consul in Lviv on October 21, 1933.

The film covers a conference on the Holodomor held in Canada in the fall of 1990, the causes and course of the mass famine of 1932–1933, and the Soviet authorities’ dispossession of the kulaks and repressions. Through eyewitness accounts, the film depicts the lives of Ukrainians during the Holodomor, the consequences of the famine, and the fates of those who survived it. It also examines the attempts by Polish and Soviet authorities to suppress information about the famine in Ukraine, as well as the aid that the Ukrainian community in Galicia sought to provide to the victims. A significant portion of the film is devoted to Mykola Lemyk, his family, and his activities within the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. It details his planning and execution of the assassination of the Soviet consul in Lviv, the trial, the protests by the Ukrainian public, and Ukrainian society’s reaction to the Holodomor and Stalinist repressions. Through the recollections of Mykola Lemyk’s relatives, the filmmakers recount his family life, his imprisonment, his escape, his subsequent struggle, and the fate of his loved ones.

Lviv State Television and Radio Company, 1996. The documentary film “Velykyi Lyubin” tells the story of the past and present of the village of Velykyi Lyubin—from ancient times to the 1990s.

The film covers the Lyubin settlement, known as the Old Castle; the history of the local resort and its healing hydrogen sulfide springs; the activities of the “Prosvita” society; and the construction of the People’s House, the Ukrainian cooperative, and the “Sokil” society. Special attention is given to the stories of local residents, the repression and deportations of Ukrainians by the Soviet authorities, the persecution of Ukrainian activists by the Polish authorities in the 1930s, and the fates of families deported to Siberia. The filmmakers discuss prominent figures in the local community and the preservation of historical memory. Toward the end of the film, issues of culture, education, the development of Velykyi Lyuben, and the future of the Ukrainian state are raised.

The Story of Velykyi Lyuben: A 1996 Documentary Film

March 24, 1999, Lviv. Lviv Television. The TV show “Veselyi Zamok.”

In the video: TV announcer Iryna Haidamaka announces that the program “Veselyi Zamok” will be replaced by the documentary “Yilesev Komaz” due to technical issues. Host Oksana Savchak explains that this is an April Fools’ Day prank, announces a contest, and introduces the judging panel. The program features contests and theatrical skits based on the works of Nikolai Gogol. Participants take on the roles of characters such as Oksana and Mykola, Panasykha and Panas, Solokha and Chuba. Marta Kostytska, a student at the Lviv Academic Gymnasium, performs the song “The Jazz-Playing Turkey” by Volodymyr Polyansky. Next come a hairstyle contest and a riddle contest, and the participants take part in search challenges. A group of Amazons performs a song, and Levko Durko sings April Fools’ Day songs. Yevhen Fedorchenko tells jokes and reads short stories. Contestants answer questions about what they would do if they became principals of their schools. Announcement of the winners, award ceremony, closing credits.
