How the Ukrainian Diaspora Lives in America

UT, 1992. The film "American Ukrainians" is edited from several video sketches of the life of the Ukrainian community in America, filmed by TV journalists during a short trip to six US states.

On the video: excerpts from various meetings with the Ukrainian diaspora, home videos, ceremonial events; interview with the head of the UNR government in exile Mykola Plavyuk in Philadelphia; a story dedicated to the Ukrainian People's Union, an interview with its head Ulyana Dyachuk; Ukrainian press in America, printing houses of the newspapers "Svoboda" and "Ukrainian Weekly"; a story from the Philadelphia Educational and Cultural Center about raising funds for the construction of the Ukrainian embassy in Washington, an interview with Ulyana Mazurkevych, the leader of the Philadelphia organization of the Ukraine Assistance Committee, the Ambassador of Ukraine to America Oleh Belorus, and the Representative of Ukraine to the UN Viktor Batyuk; an interview with architect Zenon Mazurkevych about the features of Ukrainian spiritual architecture; an interview with Ivan Hanyansky, the owner of the car sales company "Winner", talks about the organization of leisure activities among the Ukrainian community: festivals and holidays of the Ukrainian diaspora in America: the festival "On the Verkhovyna", a performance by the trio "Lybid", video sketches about the life of Ukrainian Americans.

Reference: In the 1990s, the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States actively contributed to the international recognition of Ukraine's independence, supporting diplomatic initiatives and raising funds for the creation of Ukrainian missions abroad. Civic organizations, churches, and cultural centers of the diaspora have become important centers of support for the Ukrainian statehood and the development of Ukrainian culture outside Ukraine.
