Bread and metal

Kharkiv, 1974. Kharkiv television studio, television film ‘Bread and Metal’.

The film is about the dependence of agricultural success on technology, about the advanced workers of the Kharkiv Tractor Plant: steelworker, Hero of Socialist Labour Fedir Amelin, blacksmith Mykhailo Kalashnikov, fitter-assembler Mykola Onovchenko, and engineer-technologist Mykhailo Yashchenko. Farmer Oleksandr Zamlilyi talks about the importance of using modern technology in agriculture and the cooperation between workers and farmers; mechanic and distinguished innovator of Ukraine Oleksandr Bondarenko talks about the work of the T-150 tractor in the field.

The video shows wheat fields, a combine harvester, workshops at the Kharkiv Tractor Plant, tractor production, and tractors in the field.

The film uses black-and-white documentary footage of manual field work, the construction of the Kharkiv Tractor Plant, Grigory Petrovsky's speech to the people of Kharkiv, the release of the first tractors, and a group photo of the workers who produced the 1,000th tractor.

The video is in Russian and contains elements of propaganda.
