Reference: Boris Paton (1918-2020) was an engineer, academician, and politician. He worked in the field of welding processes, metallurgy, and metal technology. From 1953 to 2020, he was director of the E. Paton Electric Welding Institute. In 1962, he became head of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (later the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) and remained its president until his death. Boris Paton was a member of a number of domestic and foreign scientific organizations. He was awarded a number of state awards, including, on November 26, 1998, he was the first to receive the title of Hero of Ukraine, the highest state award.
