Scientist-surgeon Nikolai Pirogov

Reference: Mykola Pirogov is a surgeon and scientist, one of the founders of military field surgery. He was born in the russian Empire, and lived and worked for a significant part of his life in modern Ukraine, in particular in the Vyshnia estate near Vinnytsia. He was the first in medicine to systematically use ether anesthesia, plaster casts, and introduce sorting of the wounded (triage) in the field.
