Reference: Ivan Karpenko-Kary's comedy "Vanity" is one of the key socio-psychological plays of Ukrainian drama of the early 20th century, in which the problem of careerism is sharply considered, loss of moral integrity and alienation of the intelligentsia from the people. The play exposes the destructive power of vain ambitions on the example of the Barylchenko family and at the same time raises the universal theme of the degradation of human relationships under the pressure of social success.
