The ship was purchased by Ukraine from the UK in 2021. It previously served in the British Antarctic program under the name "RRS James Clark Ross".
After being renamed and flying the Ukrainian flag, the icebreaker regularly carries out scientific expeditions to the Antarctic and delivers polar explorers and cargo through the Drake Passage.
