Concert program "Songs of My Land" of the State Honored Hryhoriy Veryovka Choir and the ensemble of folk instruments "Triple Musicians".
The program includes: "Over the Wide Dnieper" (music by Anatoly Avdievsky, verses by Valentin Lagoda); Ukrainian folk songs, spring songs; "Hopak" (music by Igor Ivashchenko, staged by Oleksiy Gomon); "Oh Look, Mom"; a fragment of Yevhen Stankovych's opera "The Fern Flower" (soloist Nina Matvienko); choreographic suite "Zaporozhtsy" (staged by Oleksiy Kalinin).
Reference: The Hryhoriy Veryovka Choir was founded in 1943 during World War II in Kharkiv; the founder and first director The group was founded by composer and choral conductor Hryhoriy Veryovka. The first soloists of the choir were formed from members of front-line ensembles, and the modern structure of the group includes choral, dance and orchestral groups.
Nina Matvienko is a Ukrainian singer, actress, Hero of Ukraine, laureate of the Shevchenko Prize, soloist of the Hryhoriy Veryovka Choir, later of the ensemble "Kyivska Kamerata"; her work combined authentic folklore with academic music and became an important component of Ukrainian musical culture of the second half of the 20th century.
