A participant in the fighting in Afghanistan, one of the key organizers of the veterans' movement in Ukraine, a long-time chairman of the Ukrainian Union of Afghanistan Veterans and head of state bodies for veterans' affairs. In 2006–2007, he was a People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 5th convocation, specializing in issues of social protection of veterans, disabled people and participants in military conflicts.
