Act of Proclamation of Independence of Ukraine. Session of the Verkhovna Rada part 3

August 24, 1991. An extraordinary session of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR. The Speaker of the Parliament is Leonid Kravchuk. There are 363 deputies in the hall. All decisions are made by roll call vote.

Leonid Kravchuk reads the text of the Act of Independence of Ukraine. At 17:55, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the document. The majority of MPs voted for this decision - 346. There was a round of applause. A blue and yellow flag was brought into the hall.

To confirm the Act of Independence, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine decided to hold a referendum on December 1, 1991.

Also on that day, the session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted an appeal to the President, leadership and people of Russia, which expressed gratitude for "saving democracy in the USSR, which made it possible to realize the age-old dream of the Ukrainian people to gain full independence."
