Reference: The Kurenivka tragedy was a man-made disaster that occurred in Kyiv on 13 March 1961, when a stream of waste from brick factories broke through a dam in Babyn Yar and flooded one of the city's districts, Kurenivka. According to official data, 145 people died. During the Soviet period, the tragedy was hushed up.
