During the surgery, Kashpirovsky used hypnosis to anesthetize a patient whose body did not respond to general anesthesia. He also explains the guidelines that must be followed before the session.

In 1989, he conducted several “hypnosis” sessions on Soviet television. During two televised sessions (1988 and 1989), he administered anesthesia to three patients: Lyubov Grabovskaya during the removal of a breast tumor, Lesya Yurshova, and Olga Ignatova during surgical operations. The first session took place on October 9 on Central Television.

Viewers believed in Kashpirovsky’s “gift”—this brought him great popularity. He held meetings with artists, medical professionals, and public figures. He was awarded the USSR State Prize and received a Doctor of Medical Sciences degree. In 1993, he was elected to the state duma of russia.
