Reference: The Black Way is an extensive system of steppe communications of the 15th–18th centuries, which was used by Turkic nomadic groups and Crimean Tatars for military campaigns and the transportation of yasir; in the Turkic tradition, its name is associated with the word "kara", which denotes greatness and significance, hence the interpretation as "the great way". Part of his routes ran through Podillia and the territory of modern Ternopil region in the direction of Lviv, where this route functioned as an important section of the so-called Tatar route.
