Dmytro Pavlychko: a farewell ceremony

A farewell ceremony for Dmytro Pavlychko, a Ukrainian poet of the sixties, co-author of the Act of Independence of Ukraine, and author of the legendary song "Two Colors."

The poet was born into a large family in the village of Stopchativ, Stanisławski Voivodeship, Poland (now Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast) on September 28, 1929, and at the age of 16 he joined the UPA under the pseudonym "Doroshenko." According to the dissident and literary critic Ivan Dziuba, it was Dmytro Pavlychko who started what would one day be called "dissidence."

Dmytro Pavlychko died on the evening of January 29, 2003, at the age of 94. On February 1, he was buried in Stopchativ at the local cemetery.
