Illustrators of Nikolai Gogol's "Dead Souls"

1999, National Television Company of Ukraine. The issue of the educational scientific and educational program "School Screen" tells about the artists who illustrated Nikolai Gogol's poem "Dead Souls" in different years. The host is art historian Anna Zavarova.

On the video: screensavers, Anna Zavarova tells about the artists and illustrations: Dmitry Mamonov, drawing - a portrait of Gogol, Gogol among artists in Rome, the cover made by Gogol himself for his poem; a cycle of engravings by the artist Volodymyr Bernatsky, which were published separately (without the text of the poem); lustrations by Pyotr Baklevsky, who painted portraits of the main characters of the poem (Chichikov, Manilov, Korobochka, Plyushkin, Sobakevich and others); illustrations by Alexander Sokolov (watercolor); illustrations by Alexei Laptev, a draftsman (1950s), who loved to depict the poem's landscapes, genre scenes (Chichikov in a fur coat, Chichikov at the post, Manilov on the stairs, etc.).
