
A century of chimes from the great Lavra bell tower

News from First National, 2003. This report marks the 100th anniversary of the chimes of the Great Lavra Bell Tower, the fourth such anniversary since the establishment of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve.
In the video: footage of the Lavra bell tower; the large clock being wound by hand; guided tours; exhibits from the Second International Exhibition ‘Celebrate Christmas’, organised in collaboration with monasteries, parishes and arts and crafts centres whose creative work centres on Orthodoxy.
Ihor Fedoryachenko, head of the guided tours and cultural heritage section of the reserve, discusses the history of the chimes, whilst Serhiy Krolevets, former Director-General of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve (1995–2010), talks about the International Exhibition.
