Feast of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary: origins and traditions

National Television Company of Ukraine, 1997. The program "Secrets of Eternity" highlights the history and significance of the holiday of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, originally of Greek origin and preserved in Ukrainian traditions, from the point of view of science (in particular, space) and customs.

The features of the Feast of the Protection of the Virgin are described: from the point of view of cosmic phenomena during this period — by the director of the Kyiv Republican Planetarium (now the Kyiv Planetarium) Ivan Kryachko; the significance of the holiday in pre- and Christian times, the Cossack period and preserved traditions, in particular in the Slobozhanshchyna — by ethnographer, Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine Lidia Orel and ethnographer, head of the ethnography sector of the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine in Pirogov Nadiya Zyablyuk.
