Hryvnia: history of the national currency of Ukraine

September 2, 2020. "Public Studio". The plot is devoted to the introduction of the hryvnia as the national monetary unit of Ukraine and its transition from coupon coins to modern banknotes and coins.

The material tells about the history of the monetary reform of 1996, preparations for the introduction of the hryvnia and the transition to it as the only legal means of payment. It shows how the denominations of banknotes and coins changed when the graphic sign of the hryvnia appeared and what images are placed on Ukrainian banknotes. In particular, we are talking about banknotes with portraits of Hryhoriy Skovoroda and Volodymyr Vernadskyi, as well as about the gradual transition from paper banknotes to circulation coins.
