How accurate are referendums?

National Television Company of Ukraine, 2003. The issue of the program "Nagolos" is dedicated to the discussion of holding referendums, in which political scientist and presenter Mykhailo Pogrebinsky; President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk; Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Myroslav Popovych; Doctor of Philosophy Yevhen Holovakha; Archpriest Oleksandr Kubelius (speaks in russian). During the discussion, the figures raised the following issues:

— whether it is worth involving citizens in approving political reform;
— how valid is the referendum decision;
— what is an acceptable number of people's deputies in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine — 450 or 300;
— what is the parliamentary majority in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
— how much do the people trust the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and what is the reason for such a level;
— whether it is worth conducting sociological surveys instead of a referendum;
— redistribution of powers between the government and parliament, etc.
