
A story about the rallies near the Supreme Council of Crimea that took place at the beginning of the Russian occupation of the peninsula on February 26, 2014.
One side of the protesters was represented by supporters of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Representatives of the Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov. He called on the parliament not to support the criminal government and advocated for the preservation of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
The opponents were pro-Russian supporters of the Russian Unity party, whose leader, Sergei Aksyonov, later became the illegal head of the Crimean government.
