"Chervona Ruta" - the first festival of Ukrainian song
1989, 116 min
On September 17, 1989, the first Chervona Ruta festival started at the Bukovyna Stadium in Chernivtsi.
The idea belongs to journalist Ivan Lepsha. He envisioned that the Chervona Ruta contest-festival, dedicated to Volodymyr Ivasyuk, would be a venue for creative collaboration between professionals and amateurs. This idea was supported by many famous artists, and in 1988, musicians Taras Melnyk, Kyrylo Stetsenko, Anatoliy Kalenychenko, and poet Ivan Malkovych developed the concept.
The winners of the first Chervona Ruta festival were: Taras Kurchyk (Drohobych, Lviv region), Andriy Mykolaychuk (Uman), Eduard Drach (Kryvyi Rih), the band VV (Kyiv), Oleksandr Tyshchenko (Kyiv), Sister Vika (Philadelphia, USA), Braty Gadyukiny (Lviv), Komu Vnyz (Kyiv), Maria Burmaka (Kharkiv), and the band Zahrava (Kolomyia).
Among the honorees were Halyna and Lesia Telniuk, Taras Chubai, and others.
