In the summer of 2014, Russian militants of the "DPR" terrorist group detained 16-year-old schoolboy Stepan Chubenko in Donetsk and shot him dead after torture for his pro-Ukrainian position.

He was posthumously awarded the Order of the People's Hero of Ukraine and the Order for Courage, III degree.
