Celebration of Vyacheslav Chornovol's 60th birthday

An anniversary evening dedicated to the 60th birthday of Vyacheslav Chornovil at the Ivan Franko National Drama Theater.

Vyacheslav Chornovil was born on December 24, 1937, in the village of Yerky, Katerynopil district, Kyiv region (now Cherkasy region). Ukrainian politician, public figure, publicist, literary critic, Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the I-II convocation, activist of the resistance movement against Russification and national discrimination of the Ukrainian people, political prisoner of the USSR, Hero of Ukraine (posthumously).

Vyacheslav Chornovil initiated the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine on July 16, 1990 and the Act of Independence of Ukraine on August 24, 1991.

He died on March 25, 1999 in a car accident on the highway near Boryspil. He was buried in Kyiv at the Baikove Cemetery on the central alley. His funeral was attended by hundreds of thousands of people.
