Da Vinci: Memories of Dmytro Kotsiubailo

In this report from the village of Bovshiv, we talk to teachers, villagers, and the grandmother of Dmytro Kotsiubailo, the Hero of Ukraine with the call sign "Da Vinci".

Dmytro Kotsiubailo was born on November 1, 1995, in the village of Zadnistrianske, Burshtyn community in Ivano-Frankivsk region. He studied to be an artist for three years at the Ivano-Frankivsk Professional Construction Lyceum.

He went to war at the age of 18, and later commanded the 1st separate assault company of Right Sector. In 2014, he was seriously wounded in the village of Pisky in Donetsk region. After rehabilitation, he returned to the front. He took part in the liberation of Karlivka, Pisky, Avdiivka, as well as in the battles near Stepanivka, Savur-Mohyla, Starohnativka.

He was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine on November 30, 2021. From the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he commanded the Da Vinci Wolves special forces unit of the 67th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Dmytro Kotsiubailo was killed on March 7, 2023, in the Bakhmut direction.
