Anti-Western propaganda on Soviet TV

1980, 8 min

A video film in russian from the series "Myths and Reality" dedicated to the topic of emigration of people from the Soviet Union abroad. Created by the Kyiv Television Studio. The program has bright features of propaganda. The narration is filled with emotionally colored hate speech. The video contains "testimonies" of people who received an invitation to leave the Soviet Union. The footage has signs of "staged shooting" created under pressure.

The creation of such "counter-propaganda" programs was coordinated by the State Television and Radio Broadcasting of the Ukrainian SSR. The stigmatization of emigration sentiments among people of Jewish nationality is one of the leading themes of such programs. Attention in such films was also focused on the fight against "bourgeois nationalism," "religious extremism," "Zionist influence," etc.

p.s.: according to the editorial office's own sources, all the "heroes of the film" who received invitations to leave the country eventually did; there is an assumption that participation in the filming was a kind of "payment" for permission to emigrate.
