Construction of the Olivets TV center

The video shows the construction of the Olivenets TV center in Kyiv in 1988.

The TV center was built from 1983 to 1992. The height of the building is 97 meters. Initially, it was planned to be built in Pechersk, but later it was decided to move the site to the area of the regional hospital, to the site of the Lukianiv Jewish cemetery. Construction work was periodically suspended due to limited funding. As a result, construction was completed on December 30, 1992.

The Kyiv TV center was designed as a backup in case the Ostankino TV center failed. The building area is 87,500 m². Some parts of the building are still unfinished, such as the concert studio.

On March 1, 2022, the TV center building was damaged as a result of Russian missile attacks on the Kyiv TV tower.
