Borys Hmyria was born on August 5, 1903, in the city of Lebedyn, Kharkiv region. He studied at the Kharkiv Civil Engineering Institute and later worked as a graduate student.
In 1939, he graduated from the Kharkiv Conservatory and studied vocals with Pavlo Holubev. The opera singer often performed Ukrainian folk songs and works based on the poems of Taras Shevchenko on tour.
Borys Hmyria died on August 1, 1969.
