The first presidential election in Ukraine took place on December 1, 1991. Leonid Kravchuk took first place in all regions, except for three regions where Vyacheslav Chornovil won. Kravchuk ran for president as a non-partisan. He held this position from December 5, 1991 to July 19, 1994.
