On October 25, 2004, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, visited Crimea. The Duke of Edinburgh arrived to take part in events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Balaklava during the Crimean War.

Reference: The Crimean War (1853-1856) was a military conflict between the Russian Empire and a coalition of the Ottoman Empire, Great Britain, France, and the Kingdom of Sardinia.
