Reference: On March 10, 1861, 47-year-old Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko died in St. Petersburg. He was buried at the Smolensk Cemetery. On May 22, 1861, the poet was reburied on Chernecha Hill near Kaniv. The Kaniv State Museum-Reserve “Taras Shevchenko's Grave” was established at the burial site of Taras Shevchenko.
