Reference: On October 1, 2008, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in Kyiv held the solemn opening of the international exhibition “Ukraine — Sweden: at the crossroads of history (16th-17th centuries)”, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the conclusion of the Ukrainian-Swedish military-political union. The exhibition, which became an important event in the cultural relations of the two countries, presented 124 exhibits from museums and archives of Ukraine and Sweden, including Cossack jewels, letters of hetmans, maps and engravings, as well as the hetman flag of Ivan Mazepa. Exhibits from the Swedish side included unique monuments, including the painting "Mazepa and Charles XII on the Dnieper" by Gustav Söderström.
