Reference: Apollinarii Tarnavskyi is a prominent Ukrainian physician, hydrotherapist, and innovator in the field of naturopathy, who founded one of the first sanatoriums in the Hutsul region in the town of Kosiv. Having understood and adapted to local conditions the methods of hydrotherapy of the Bavarian healer Sebastian Kneipp, Tarnavskyi created a unique system of health improvement that combined water procedures, physical activity, psychotherapy, asceticism, and strict discipline. His sanatorium, known as the “people’s hospital,” became popular among the Polish intelligentsia of the interwar period and played an important cultural role. In Ukraine, the doctor’s name remained forgotten for a long time, but today, thanks to the efforts of scientists and enthusiasts, his legacy is gradually returning to public memory.
