In response to these calls, the authorities resorted to force. On the night of November 29-30, a brutal dispersal of protesters took place, during which Berkut special forces used explosive packages, beat people with batons, threw them off the pedestal of the Independence Monument, and trampled on them. The dispersal resulted in many injuries among the protesters.
