Reference: Ivan Kozhedub is a Soviet fighter pilot, Marshal of Aviation. He was born in the village of Obrazhiyivka, Glukhiv district, into a family of Ukrainian Cossack origin. During World War II, he became the most successful pilot of the Anti-Hitler Coalition, having won 64 confirmed air victories. He is the only Ukrainian to have been awarded three titles of Hero of the Soviet Union. Throughout his life, he repeatedly emphasized his Ukrainian origin and connection with his native Sumy region.
