Reference: Ivan Bahryany is a Ukrainian writer, publicist and political figure, one of the most powerful voices of emigration literature. Author of the novels "Tiger Hunters" and "The Garden of Gethsemane", in which he truthfully depicted the experience of Soviet repressions and camps even before Solzhenitsyn. After the war, he became a co-founder of the Ukrainian Revolutionary Democratic Party, edited the newspaper "Ukrainian News" and headed the Ukrainian National Council in exile. His work is a combination of sharp political criticism, humanism and faith in the power of the Ukrainian spirit.
