Background: Oleksiy Pukach is a former high-ranking official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, who headed the external surveillance and criminal investigation units of the Ministry in 2000-2003. In 2013, he was found guilty of the murder of journalist Georgiy Gongadze and sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certified positions related to the performance of the functions of a representative of the authorities for a period of three years.
