1993, Ukrainian Television Film Studio. The program “Two Wings of Levko Matsiyevych” is dedicated to the ship's engineer and the first aviator of Ukrainian origin.
The video features: screensavers, archival photos and videos, an interview with Ukrainian writer and aviation historian Yevhenia Korolova, footage of Oleksandrivka village in Kirovohrad region, newspaper articles.
Reference: Levko Matsiyevych (1877-1910) was the first aviator of Ukrainian descent, engineer, inventor, and public figure. He was educated in Kharkiv and St. Petersburg, served in the Black Sea Fleet, and designed submarines and aircraft carriers. In 1910, he received his pilot's license in France. He was an activist of the Ukrainian national movement and co-founder of the Revolutionary Ukrainian Party. He died during a demonstration flight in St. Petersburg, the first plane crash with human casualties in the Russian Empire.
