Reference: On May 7, 1985, the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the Council of Ministers of the USSR adopted a resolution “On Measures to Overcome Drunkenness and Alcoholism and Eradicate Moonshine Making.” An anti-alcohol campaign was launched across the country: liquor stores were closed, production of alcoholic beverages was reduced, and vineyards were destroyed. Under the slogan “Sobriety is the norm of life,” banquets without alcohol were promoted. The anti-alcohol campaign was a complete failure.
