Reference: Polovtsian babas are stone statues created by nomadic peoples, in particular the Polovtsians, who lived in the territory of modern Ukraine in the 9th–13th centuries. These sculptures usually depicted men or women holding ritual objects and were installed on burial mounds or places of worship. They are considered sacred monuments associated with beliefs about ancestors and the protection of territory.
