Reference: On March 9, 2001, the security forces of Ukraine suppressed the "Ukraine without Kuchma" protest, which ended the mass opposition demonstrations. In the "March 9 case," the court sentenced several dozen participants, including representatives of UNA-UNSO, to terms ranging from several years of suspended sentences to actual prison terms (up to 5 years). The repressions led to the political isolation of part of the opposition and the strengthening of the authoritarian practices of Leonid Kuchma's regime.
