Reference: The Great Lavra Bell Tower is the main bell tower of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and one of the tallest sacral structures in Ukraine, built in 1731–1744 according to the design of the German architect Johann Gottfried Schedel. The structure is made in the form of a four-tiered octagonal tower using the classical order system and individual Baroque elements, which reflects the transitional style of Ukrainian architecture of the 18th century. The bell tower serves as the architectural dominant of the Lavra and the technical center of the monastery, where the chimes and the largest bells of the monastery were located.
