Reference: Maria Zankovetska was a leading actress of the Ukrainian theater of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, one of the key figures of the theater of the luminaries, whose stage work formed the national canon of dramatic acting. Her upbringing and long life in the Chernihiv region, in particular in Nizhyn and Zanko's native village, determined her linguistic culture, repertoire orientation, and deep attention to the images of the peasant and folk environment. Zankoetska's theatrical practice combined realistic psychological acting, the vocal tradition of Ukrainian song, and the aesthetics of the regional cultural environment of Left-Bank Ukraine.
