In the video: opening credits, Khust, the premises of the Ukrainian State Gymnasium, the First Sejm of Carpathian Ukraine, the proclamation of the independence of Carpathian Ukraine, Augustin Voloshyn – proclaimed President – and members of the Sejm. Black-and-white newsreel by Kalenyk Lysyuk – a Ukrainian from America – filmed on 15 March 1939. Resolutions of the Sejm are read out in the hall: 1. Renaming “Subcarpathian Rus” to “Carpathian Ukraine”. 2. Carpathian Ukraine is a republic. 3. The official language is Ukrainian. 4. The national colours of Carpathian Ukraine are a blue and yellow flag. 5. The national coat of arms is the Trident – the symbol of Saint Volodymyr the Great. 6. The national anthem is “Ukraine’s glory and freedom have not yet perished”. At the end of the film, there are contemporary shots of Krasne Pole near Khust, where a memorial cross has been erected to the Sich Riflemen shot in 1939. Shots featuring Vyacheslav Chornovil and Leonid Kuchma. Ivan Popovich’s song “Grant Us Unity, O God” plays.
