Tackling gas theft in the Poltava region
2003, 1 min
First National, 2003. A report on the fight by special units of the Security Service of Ukraine against organised crime groups which, using their own intelligence, night-vision equipment and a fleet of petrol tankers, were stealing gas in the Poltava region. Taps into gas pipelines and illegal oil depots were discovered in the Gadyach (which, following the 2020 reform, is now part of the Myrhorod district) and Zinkiv (part of the current Poltava district) districts. Law enforcement officers dismantled the criminal groups that were siphoning off gas and storing the stolen gas condensate using specialised equipment.
In the video: petrol tankers, the SBU office building in Poltava, gas tanks, law enforcement officers inspecting the vehicles, and a comment from Mykola Sokhatskyi, head of the SBU’s special unit in the Poltava region.
The report was prepared by Rostyslav Martyniuk and Volodymyr Dzyuba.
