"Alien Fate": Women's Fate in Mountain Villages

Transcarpathian Television, 1997. The TV film "Alien Fate" is dedicated to the memories of the residents of the village of Patskanovo, Transcarpathian region, about life's trials, traditional life, family values, and women's fate in the conditions of a mountain village.

In the video: a village hut; women are putting firewood on the fire by the stove, baking potatoes on the stove ("baking banki on a spur"), shelling corn, knitting, embroidering, cooking food; in the yard, they are feeding chickens, chopping firewood, and drawing water from a well; scenes of everyday life; women are performing folk songs; winter landscapes of the village: snowy gardens, trees covered with hoarfrost, a frozen stream with ice holes, a lonely tree in a field, fog over the mountains. Village residents talk about their own fate, raising children, parents, local and family traditions, student years, youth leisure in the village, attitude to swearing, folk beliefs and dreams.
