The story is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine.

The video features archival footage of the adoption of the declaration, a speech by the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, comments by Ivan Plyushch, the chairman of the first parliament of independent Ukraine, lawyer and scholar Serhiy Holovaty, and director Les Taniuk.

On July 16, 1990, the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine. The document recognized the right of the Ukrainian nation to self-determination, declared the territory of Ukraine inviolable, the state had to protect and defend the national statehood of Ukrainians, and recognized the people as the sole source of state power in Ukraine.
